Bruce Munro: Field Of Lights at Sensorio, Paso Robles

We finally visited the Field of Lights last week and it was AMAAAAZING!

Since baby is coming in less than a month, we decided to take a last trip as a family of 4 to Monterey, CA. We were supposed to leave Friday morning for Monterey, but we decided to leave Thursday instead and drive the extra 2 hours to Paso Robles to check out the Field of Lights and I’m so glad we did!

First – I have to say RJ is a trooper!!! This guy woke up at 2:30am for work, worked until 2pm, drove home all the way from the city, and got home by 3pm in time to drive us 4 hours all the way to Paso Robles because our tickets were for 7pm. Side note – he never lets me drive LOL. He always seems to amaze me!!!

When we finally got to Paso Robles, we initially wanted to check into our hotel first because we had all of our luggage in the car, but it was already 6:50pm once we got into the city so we decided to go straight to the Field of Lights.

The sun was just setting as we pulled into the parking lot and I heard this was the best time to view the lights! You’ll want to make sure to dress warm because it was freezing! When we left our house, it was so hot so I was wearing shorts. Luckily, my sweatpants were at the top of our luggage so I was able to throw those over my shorts.

It’s recommended you arrive 15min before your ticket time because you have to get in a long line. Your purse or backpack will be searched and you’ll go thru a metal detector. After that, you will be screened for COVID.

Per their website, COVID Guidelines are as follows:

  • Maintain Social Distance of 6 feet or more
  • Masks/Face Coverings are REQUIRED. No exceptions.
  • Temperature checks are done at the front gate. Any guest with a temperature over 100.4 degrees will be turned away.
  • Upon entrance, all guests are required to read and answer questions confirming that they currently have no symptoms and have knowingly not come into contact in the last 14 days with anyone that has symptoms of COVID. You will state your name and answer these questions on video tape.
  • Groups will be limited to 6 people.

Once you’re past that, you’re pretty much in! Someone will reiterate the COVID rules to stay 6 feet apart, but you’re pretty much on your own after that.

The walk thru was pretty amazing. There were so many lights and you can just see how much detail went into such a beautiful art exhibit! It didn’t take too long to walk through the entire thing…maybe about 25 minutes. You were able to go around as many times as you’d like, but it’s a one way trail only. So, once you start, you can’t go backwards. You’d have to finish forward all the way through.

Here are some photos we took:

Once you were done, they had food trucks/vendors out and tables set up where you could take a break and eat. Their pizza was so good!

We also ordered some BBQ Pork Ribs, Loaded Fries and 2 Hot Chocolates from the regular menu. We were so hungry that I forgot to take photos of the rest of the food, but here’s the menu with prices:

After we ate, we were so tired from the long day that we decided to head to the hotel to get ready for our Monterey trip the next morning.

We stayed at the Holiday Inn Express Paso Robles, about 10 minutes away. If you’re interested in reading more about that hotel, click here.

All in all, we would totally recommend visiting the Field Of Lights! Thursdays are family days so you can find tickets a bit cheaper if you’re on a budget, which is what we did. I would also recommend booking your tickets ASAP because they have been selling out fast! They extended the exhibit due to popular demand thru January 3, 2021 so definitely visit if you can find time to go around the holidays.

Click here to head to the Sensorio website to purchase tickets and to read more information.

Other than that, I do wish we could have stayed in Paso Robles a few more days because it looked like such a nice little town! Maybe we will plan another trip there one day!
