Back To School

The kids officially went back to school yesterday – distant learning style!

With COVID going around, I’m actually real happy our school district decided to do distant learning. There are just way too many unknowns for me being high risk with Lupus, and with us expecting a newborn in a few months.

I was really nervous though about Ryder falling even more behind than he already is. He is a 2nd grader this year and is still having trouble learning to read. I am a horrible teacher and every time I try to teach him, we end up arguing. Because of this, I found out that Kumon was open about a month ago and enrolled him right away. He’s been so much better! Still not exactly where he needs to be yet, but I’m so thankful for their help because I know I couldn’t do it on my own.

Shayla, on the other hand, has always been a straight A student. She’s the type that freaks out if her homework is not done right away, even though the due date is 3 days away, LOL. I guess that’s a good quality to have! We never had to worry about her with school. She’s such a good girl! I am super sad for her though because this is her last year in elementary school…a 5th grader! We still don’t know if distant learning will be all year, but for now, that is what I’m assuming it will be. If that’s the case, she will be missing all of her 5th grade activities, like special field trips and a graduation ceremony. It’s a huge milestone for her but I know she’ll get thru it!

We started off the day waking up and getting ready for school as if it was still in class. They got dressed, ate breakfast, and by 8:50am, they were both ready to log onto Zoom for their first “class”. Both of their teachers had issues in the beginning. Internet was lagging real bad – could barely hear or understand them! The morning Zoom is 1 hour and it was bad almost the whole time. By the time they got back online for their afternoon Zoom, everything was fixed and so much better! It’s the first day of school so it was a learning point for all of us to figure out what works and what doesn’t. I’m glad they figured it out that fast!

Here are some photos of the kids First Day of School! Enjoy!

You will be glad to have these memories recorded one day! Don’t worry so much about your son….mine struggled to read until he got a great teacher in 2nd grade or maybe it was that he was just then “ready”. That same son is now a senior in college with all that struggle in the past 🙂
    Have a great year!

That’s awesome glad they had a first day back to school.. I’m sure it’s not easy as a parent to explain what’s going on in the world
