THE Y TRIBE currently lives in the Bay Area, CA. We love it here and have lived here all of our lives.
RJ + I have been together since forever. We first met in 6th grade and became “boyfriend/girlfriend” in 7th grade at just the age of 12 and 13! Sounds crazy, I know…especially since our oldest daughter, Shayla, will be 11 this year. Yikes!
I honestly feel that we are truly one of the lucky ones. Not too many times do you hear stories of people still with their high school sweethearts…but middle school sweethearts? Who would’ve known?! We even found out that we only lived a block away from each other the whole time!
We stayed together all thru middle school, then high school, and I guess when we graduated in 2008, things just fell into place because we ended up having our first daughter, Shayla in 2009! From there, we moved in together and got married in 2011 (I’m a sucker for numbers so we got married on the luckiest day 11/11/2011)…which was soon followed by our second born, Ryder in 2013. We officially became homeowners in 2017. Here we are now in 2020, pregnant with our last child, a baby girl!
Aside from the kids, we also have 3 dogs: Chica, our 13 year old Chihuahua who is Shaina’s “baby before her babies”; Reeses, an 8 year old deaf (but super smart) Yorkie/Maltese mix (Morkie); and Nala, our 6 year old fierce guard puppy German Shepherd.
RJ is a Pisces and Shaina is a Scorpio…if you look up our compatibility, you will see that we are the most magical match! I swear it’s like we’re both the same, but different at the same time. He is the yin to my yang! No lie, we are always on the same wave length. I could be thinking about something, and RJ will say it out loud – and vice versa. We’ve been told more than once that we are each other’s soulmates and I couldn’t find that to be any more true.
Our favorite thing to do is spend time with each other. When we have nothing to do, we like to take the kids, just get in the car and drive with no destination at all. Sometimes we’ll decide to go drive up a road to see where it leads us…or we’ll drive thru the neighborhoods to check out some garage sale finds. As a couple, you would think we’d get sick of each other, but even though we’re with each other all the time, it just feels like we can’t be with each other enough. Family is EVERYTHING to us and there is nothing more important than just being together.
